2010 Spring Conference Recap

Once again
you helped us top last year"s conference attendance numbers! We had
256 utility attendees representing
143 systems. Like last year our conference was in beautiful Bloomington, which includes so many wonderful attractions and restaurants within walking distance from the convention center. Make no mistake, there was plenty going on inside the Convention Center. Our conference agenda included a packed
exhibit hall with close to
60 vendors as well as useful and pertinent
classes including Manager and Office Personnel Round Table Discussions, Spotting Meth Labs, Effective Customer Outreach at Low or No Cost, and Trenchless Main to Lateral Lining, just to name a few.

We kicked off the conference with an opening session including updates from Steve Fletcher, NRWA Board Member and Bruno Pigott, IDEM Assistant Commissioner, as well as the Alliance"s Board President, Frank Pouliot and Executive Director, Jim Soper. Next, our new Awards Luncheon on Tuesday honored our
Award Winners and Scholarship winners. Not only was lunch delicious, but guest speaker – Rob McElroy from
Daphne Utilities in Alabama gave a fantastic speech about winning, how important utility jobs are and how we can and should strive to be the best.

Another big hit was our Irish Bash on Tuesday evening, complete with Irish food, drinks, games, prizes, music and fun. It was a great time to wind down from a full day of classes, while mingling with peers and friends. One of the favorite games was the horse game… as you will see from the
photos!
Wednesday included a hot breakfast buffet in the exhibit hall to get everyone going for another day of classes.

To wrap up the conference we held our annual Water PAC raffle. Lots of items were raffled off such as jackets, a digital camera, and Brickyard 400 tickets. The “big ticket” item raffled off was a Mossberg Shotgun – won by Tim Lindewald from Kingsford Heights Municipal Utilities! Finally, Gib Tucker from BBP Water Corp won an
all expense paid trip for two to the 2010 National Rural Water Conference in New Orleans, LA, sponsored by Midwestern Engineers, Inc. and Fluid and Thermal Systems.
