to e-Training, a Web-based training system presented by the Alliance of Indiana
Rural Water in conjunction with SunCoast Learning Systems. e-Training
offers water and wastewater operators in Indiana the opportunity to access education,
training and continuing education units (CEUs) via the Internet, 24 hours a day,
365 days a year. e-Training enables water supply professionals to obtain
education and training credit hours through self-paced courses. All online courses
offered by the Alliance have been approved by the Indiana Department of Environmental

How to begin: 1. First, complete
the online registration. You will be asked to provide your name, company name,
address, social security number, e-mail, and telephone number. 2.
Second, enroll in and pay for the course you wish to take. Payments
made through the online credit card transaction (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or
American Express) are usually approved within seconds. Payments by check
or money order will take longer to allow for bank processing (usually 10 business
days after receipt by AIRW). Send checks (payable to Alliance of Indiana Rural
Water) to: Alliance of Indiana Rural Water, P.O. Box 428 Beech Grove, IN 46107.
Please indicate the student's name and "online training" on the check.
3. Once you are enrolled, log in under "Registered User"
and click on "Take My Course." Select the course you wish to take and
click on "Course Menu." This will take you to the Course Menu where
you will select the first module by clicking on the radio button and clicking
on the "Launch" button at the bottom of the page. Make sure you have
disabled your browser's "pop-up" blocker or the course will not appear.

Math Review 10 Technical Water or Wastewater
Contact Hours Registration Fee: $225 This course uses the
10-7-3 problem solving method that has been successfully used by other
RWAs. It is designed to take the fear out of water system math and gives the water
operator the tools he or she needs to be successful. The course covers water system
conversions, calculations used in determining size, dosages, velocity and weir,
filter and well calculations, as well as horsepower and efficiency.
Basic Environmental Chemistry 10 Technical Water or Wastewater Contact
Hours Registration Fee: $225 This course is a comprehensive
chemistry course and includes fundamentals of atomic structure, dilution calculations,
wastewater chemistry, coagulation, softening and BOD, and chlorination, DBP and
corrosion control. It includes non-scored comprehension checks throughout the
modules so the student can test their level of understanding before proceeding
to the scored module quiz. Practical Personnel Management (Water
Board Bible) 7 Technical Water or Wastewater Contact Hours Registration
Fee: $225
This course is designed for the inexperienced water or
wastewater manager. It addresses the challenges of supervising and running an
office, including building a team, employee law, hiring, handling conflict, compensation,
contract workers, and customer relations. Water Transmission and Distribution
10 Technical Water Contact Hours Registration Fee: $225
This course is intended to provide the water treatment plant operator
with the basic knowledge needed to better understand the operation of a water
distribution system. It addresses for pipes used, pipe installation, maintenance
and repair, fire hydrants, water considerations storage issues, service lines,
water meters, and basic hydraulics.
Surface Water Treatment 10
Technical Water Contact Hours Registration Fee: $225
This course
takes a look at the differences between ground water treatment and surface water
treatment and the notable characteristics of each. It includes discussion of coagulation
and flocculation, alkalinity and pH adjustment, filtration and disinfection.
Basic
Wastewater 10 Technical Wastewater Contact Hours Registration Fee:
$225
This course is a comprehensive guide to wastewater processes,
including testing methods, activated sludge troubleshooting, microorganisms, aerobic
and anaerobic sludge digestion, wastewater diseases and wastewater math. Sampling
and compliance are covered as well.
Basic Water Works Operations
10 Technical Water Contact Hours Registration Fee: $225
Basic Water Works Operations is a course that introduces the student to the relationship
between potable drinking water and health, as well as the important role that
the water operator plays in maintaining a safe and ample supply of drinking water.
An overall view of the water cycle is presented together with a general description
of the responsibilities of water utility personnel and the need for regulation
of the water industry to protect the public health, safety, and welfare.
Pump & Motor Maintenance 10 Technical Water & Wastewater
Contact Hours Registration Fee: $225 Pump & Motor Maintenance
is intended for operators of water and wastewater treatment facilities. It contains
information on developing a maintenance program, electric motors and motor controls,
centrifugal pump mechanics and hydraulics, lubrication and bearings, compression
packing, mechanical seals, positive displacement pumps as well as other types
of pumps, and safety around pumps and motors. Chlorinator Systems
and Chemical Handling 10 Technical Water and Wastewater Contact Hours
Registration Fee: $225 Covers properties of chlorine, purpose
of chlorine, chlorine terminology, dosage calculations, chlorinator equipment,
chlorine cylinders, operation of gas chlorinators, start up and shut down, chlorinator
maintenance, troubleshooting common problems, chlorine safety, and chlorine testing
procedures. Water Utility Safety 10 General Water Contact
Hours Registration Fee: $225 A comprehensive safety course
for water utility workers. Includes an introduction to safety concepts and programs,
the "Right to Know" law, chemical safety, first aid, description of
personal protective equipment, confined space safety, excavating and trenching
safety, biological hazards, electrical safety, work site protection, and safe
use of vehicles and other equipment. The Estimated time to complete each
course is 10 hours. Students move through the e-Training courses at their own
pace. The system allows a student to exit and return to the course at any time.
A quiz at the end of each module reinforces the student's knowledge of the subject
matter. You must master 70% of the material in each module to advance to the next
module. Students have 12 months from the date of enrollment to complete and pass
the e-Training course. | |
