This course is designed to prepare water & wastewater system personnel, emergency responders, and governing bodies for emergency situations that may occur within a water and wastewater utility system. Participants will learn how to direct the overall emergency response in case of natural disasters, terrorist attacks or other large-scale water emergencies. An understanding of technical procedures, equipment, and chemicals needed to run a water and waste water system will provide participants with the insight to develop an emergency response plan to protect against a wide variety of potential problems and occurrences within a rural water system. Special emphasis will be on Cybersecurity including discussions on SCADA systems as well as billing systems (identity theft) issues, the "dark web" and the ease with which hackers can get into any internet based operations, individual password protection, how to handle disgruntled or dismissed employees and how to check security asset.
