Disinfection & Dosage Math (Hybrid) - Hartford City, IN

Hours: 5T Water & Wastewater
Cost: $125 member/$175 non-member

Tuesday, April 21, 2026
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (EDT)

Online or In-person: Hartford City Utilities - 701 S Jefferson Street Hartford City, IN 47348

Course Description

This session provides a practical overview of wastewater disinfection methods and the mathematical principles required to properly calculate and control disinfectant dosage. Participants will explore common disinfection techniques used in wastewater treatment, including chlorination, ultraviolet (UV) systems, and alternative methods, with an emphasis on operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance.

The course will break down dosage calculations step-by-step, helping operators understand how to determine proper chemical feed rates, calculate contact time, evaluate residual levels, and adjust dosing to meet permit limits. Real-world examples will be used to demonstrate how dosage impacts pathogen removal, effluent quality, safety, and cost efficiency.

Designed for both certification exam preparation and day-to-day plant operations, this session strengthens both conceptual understanding and practical application of disinfection math.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and describe common wastewater disinfection methods, including chlorination, UV, and other treatment technologies.
  • Explain the purpose and regulatory requirements of disinfection in wastewater treatment.
  • Calculate disinfectant dosage requirements using standard mathematical formulas.
  • Determine chemical feed rates based on flow and target concentration.
  • Interpret contact time and CT (concentration × time) relationships for effective pathogen removal.
  • Evaluate and adjust dosing based on residual monitoring results.
  • Apply dosage math to real operational scenarios to improve treatment efficiency and compliance.
  • Strengthen confidence in solving disinfection-related exam questions.
