Course Description

This 5-hour course provides an overview of maintenance and improvement practices for water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Participants will review the inspection, operation, and routine maintenance of common system components, including pumps, valves, hydrants, lift stations, and other system infrastructure. The course will address pump maintenance, troubleshooting, and common repairs, as well as methods for identifying infrastructure and capacity concerns. Participants will also explore practical approaches to system repair, rehabilitation, replacement, and upgrades. Emphasis will be placed on field-based maintenance practices that improve reliability, extend equipment life, and reduce service disruptions.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

•  Identify routine maintenance needs for common water distribution and wastewater collection system components.
• Describe basic pump maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair practices.
