Course Description:
The first session of this course will cover distribution maintenance. Specifically, it will cover hydrants, wells, booster stations, lift stations, valves, and water towers and the maintenance included in these assets.
The afternoon course provides water utility professionals with practical knowledge and strategies for effectively managing water storage tanks and towers. Participants will gain insights into operational considerations, inspection and maintenance requirements, and long-term asset management planning to ensure reliable system performance and regulatory compliance.

Taking Tanks Offline:
Learn strategies for removing a water tank from service for maintenance while maintaining adequate system pressure for customers. This session explores multiple approaches and considerations for safely and efficiently taking tanks offline. -
Inspections & Maintenance:
Explore best practices for conducting thorough tank inspections, including structural integrity, sanitation, coatings, safety, and security. Participants will understand state regulatory requirements, as well as how inspections inform effective maintenance and budgeting schedules. -
Asset Management:
Discover how Asset Management Plans (AMPs) support the long-term care of water distribution system assets, such as tanks. This session covers risk assessment, cost analysis, criticality, and strategies for minimizing life-cycle costs through Capital Improvement Planning (CIP). Guidance from AWWA’s M42 Manual on Steel Water Storage Tanks will reinforce the importance of proactive maintenance programs.
