Course Description

This 8-hour wastewater operator certification exam review course focuses on the topics found on certification exams. Emphasis is placed on the wastewater certification manual review of rules, regulations, and requirements, as well as on regulatory reporting responsibilities. Participants will also review the activated sludge process, laboratory equipment, and testing. Additional topics include wastewater mathematics, solids handling, disinfection, and maintenance concepts. The course is designed to reinforce key knowledge areas and improve exam readiness through focused review.

This course is designed to meet the retesting requirements of 327 IAC 5-23-11(e)(2).

 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain key wastewater regulations, certification requirements, and NPDES permit obligations.
  • Interpret regulatory reporting requirements and compliance responsibilities.
  • Describe activated sludge process operation and basic process control principles.
  • Recognize basic laboratory equipment, know what each test measures and why it’s important, and sample preservation and holding times.
  • Be familiar with wastewater math calculations commonly found on certification exam formula sheet.
  • Explain the fundamentals of solids handling, disinfection, and maintenance.
