Course Description

This session provides an overview of common drinking water source types and the treatment approaches used to address their unique water quality challenges. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of surface water and groundwater sources, including how source characteristics influence treatment decisions. The course also introduces key state and federal rules and regulations governing drinking water treatment methods, helping operators understand regulatory expectations and compliance considerations.

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common types of drinking water sources, including surface water and groundwater
  • Describe basic treatment methods used for different source water types
  • Explain how source water characteristics impact treatment selection
  • Recognize applicable rules and regulations related to drinking water treatment methods
  • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of compliance considerations for treatment operations
