Morning Session

This session provides an introduction to core components of drinking water compliance, focusing on sanitary surveys, consumer confidence reporting, and standard monitoring requirements. Participants will gain a working understanding of regulatory purpose, required documentation, monitoring schedules, and compliance frameworks used to evaluate public water systems. The session outlines key CCR content, sanitary survey objectives, monitoring structure, and best practices that support accurate reporting and successful state compliance reviews.

Afternoon Session

This session provides a comprehensive overview of chlorine disinfection in water and wastewater treatment systems. Participants will explore how the chlorine disinfection process works through an introduction to the underlying chemistry and its role in pathogen inactivation. The course covers key operational parameters—including pH, temperature, and dosage—and how these factors impact disinfection effectiveness. Attendees will also review the different forms of chlorine used in treatment systems, such as chlorine gas, hypochlorite, and bleach, along with the associated equipment. Additional topics include disinfection by-products, safety considerations, emergency response procedures, and essential calculations for chlorine dose, demand, and residuals.

Learning Outcomes

Attendees will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and key documentation requirements of sanitary surveys
  • Summarize required components and public communication expectations of consumer confidence reports (CCR/CCR content)
  • Describe standard water system monitoring frameworks, schedules, and compliance expectations
  • Explain the basic chemistry of chlorine disinfection and how it inactivates pathogens
  • Identify the different forms of chlorine used in treatment systems and their applications
  • Describe how operational factors such as pH, temperature, and dosage affect disinfection performance
  • Recognize common chlorine feed equipment and system components
  • Understand disinfection by-products and their regulatory and operational considerations
  • Apply safety and emergency response procedures related to chlorine use
  • Perform basic calculations for chlorine dose, demand, and residuals
