Primary Role

Responsible for the operation or maintenance of the Borman Park or Ogden Dunes water filtration plant and assists with distribution pumping and storage facilities as assigned

Key Accountabilities

  • Installs, inspects, service, troubleshoot, repair of plant mechanical equipment and machinery such as chemical feeders, chemical handling equipment, pumping equipment, control valves, filtration equipment, hydraulic systems, air compressors, pneumatic equipment, and diesel drive units, and perform or assist in those tasks.
  • Installs, inspects, service, troubleshoot, repair, align setting of plant machinery and mechanical devices such as pumping equipment, mechanical transmissions, gear reducers, coupling drive units, and basin equipment, and the performance of all necessary rigging, and perform or assist in those tasks.
  • Installs, inspects, service, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrating of plant instrumentation and controls such as electro-mechanical electronic, pneumatic, tone telemetering, and related meters, gauges, and controls used for transmitting, receiving, recording, indicating, measuring, totalizing and controlling equipment, valves, and treatment processes, and perform or assist in SCADA tasks.
  • Assists with installing, inspecting, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing of 110-480V electrical equipment such as conduit, fittings, wiring, motors and motor controls, station lights and power, and relays, and perform or assist in those tasks.
  • Installs, inspects, service, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrating of plant heating, cooling, ventilation, and dehumidification equipment and controls, and perform or assist in those tasks.

Key Accountabilities Cont.

  • Installs, inspects, service, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrating of plant valves, gates, fittings, and pipe such as threaded, sweated, solvent welded, flanged, lead caulked, mechanical and slip-type joints for pipe, and working with all types of pipe material such as steel, cast iron, ductile iron, plastic, and copper, and perform or assist in those tasks.
  • Installs, inspects, service, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrating of plant combustion engine-type equipment, and perform or assist in those tasks.
  • Perform plant carpentry, masonry and concrete work, including caulking and sealing, and perform or assist in those tasks
  • Operates and maintains shop power tools such as grinders, cutting tools, drill presses, and tool sharpeners and perform or assist in those tasks
  • Ensures that work of assigned personnel is done in accordance with prescribed methods and in an efficient and safe manner, obtains and uses all required safety equipment and apparel.

Additional Key Accountabilities

  • Helps supervisor plan, direct, and perform all work included in the department's preventative maintenance program. Inventory spare parts, repair equipment, and tools, notify supervisor or depletion, knows plant operations and equipment, treatment processes and equipment, and pumping and storage operations and equipment to be able to safely and efficiently lead, direct, and perform the above described duties.
  • Follows prescribed methods for unloading, handling, and storing of all treatment chemicals, and know first-aid techniques associated with same. Requisitions, maintenance reports and other required paperwork and service manuals, or other references to effectively perform maintenance tasks.
  • Perform plant and laboratory sampling.
  • Ability to administer Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS) 4 practices.
  • Drives company auto, trucks, used in the department, and complete any maintenance required inspection tickets and any necessary state driver’s license
  • Works from engineering drawings and sketches, service manuals or other references to effectively perform maintenance tasks
  • Operate and monitor the plant’s purification and pumping facilities including raw water and high service pumping equipment, all chemical feed and infection equipment, mixing equipment, settling basins, filtration equipment and clear well equipment
  • Set up, analyze bacterial samples and report results to Supervision
  • Operate the distribution system using the SCADA network

Additional Key Accountabilities cont.

  • Adjust  and regulate chemical feed rates to coincide with production rate changes or demands, or changes in  water quality, or assist in those task
  • Perform analytical  tests of  water such as temperature, turbidity, and chlorine and fluoride residuals, or assist in those tasks
  • Responsible for the operation of all pumping and storage facilities, including coordination of operations of Borman Park filtration Plant
  • Perform and monitor filter washes as required or directed
  • Monitor, maintain, and  control  prescribed water levels and pressures pertaining to the plant and system.
  • Read  meters,  gauges, and  recording instruments  as required.
  • Know and  follow  all prescribed procedures for proper operation of plant and equipment and related treatment processes, to be able to safely and            efficiently perform the above described duties under and conditions including but not limited to emergencies. 
  • Notify  Supervision of  supply depletion, and fill chemical day tanks or assist in those tasks
  • Additional duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Certifications/Licenses

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical knowledge and familiar with hand tools is desired.
  • Knowledge of SCADA
  • Water utility experience desired, maintenance of pumps and motors.
  • Valid state driver’s license with the ability to pass a motor vehicle background check
  • WT5, WT3 and DSL licensing preferred with the ability to obtain within the company guidelines.

Work Environment

  • Working inside and outside under varies types of weather temperatures and conditions.
  • Ability to work shifts and be available to for call out. 
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds. 
  • Bending, lifting, working in tight spaces. 
  • Must be able to wear a respirator.
  • Must be clean shaven.
  • Limited Travel
