Class Description:
This 3-hour course provides an overview of wastewater regulatory compliance, from daily operational responsibilities through preparation for a state or federal inspection. Participants will review National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements, discharge limits, and Indiana-specific rules. The course will cover monitoring and analysis requirements for BOD, TSS, and pH, including approved methods, sample preservation, and immediate analysis requirements. Participants will also review proper record-keeping and reporting practices, including Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), maintenance logs, and 24-hour non-compliance notification requirements. The final portion of the course will focus on preparing facility staff and records for compliance audits and facility walk through
inspections.
Learning Objectives:
• Explain key NPDES permit requirements, discharge limits, monitoring requirements, and Indiana-specific compliance rules.
• Identify proper sampling, preservation, analysis, recordkeeping, and reporting practices needed to maintain regulatory compliance.
• Describe the steps necessary to prepare facility records, operations, and staff for a state or federal compliance inspection.
